The first time I came to Texas, I visited my aunt who lives here. She welcomed me with a sign at the airport that said “Welcome Olga” and took me to an all-you-can-eat Chinese restaurant. How To Create A Guest Room Basket
This is what I included on the guest room basket for my mother in law 🙂

For my basket, I opted for a woven storage basket. It looks charming and adds a touch of warmth while being practical. Once your guest leaves, the basket can be repurposed as a stylish toilet paper holder in the bathroom, making it a versatile and functional choice.

For the essentials, I made sure to include a toothbrush and toothpaste in the basket. I’m hoping she’ll bring her own deodorant (a little inside joke, LOL). To tailor the basket specifically to her preferences, I included body wash, body cream, and a scrub, knowing how much she loves Body Works products. This thoughtful addition makes the basket feel more personalized and special.
I also added a few extras to the guest bathroom, separate from the gift basket. These include cotton swabs and makeup remover wipes, ensuring she has everything she might need for a comfortable stay. By including these details, I aimed to create a welcoming space that reflects her tastes and needs.

Hosting a guest from abroad who isn’t familiar with the city requires a local guide to be incredibly useful. For my guest visiting San Antonio, Texas, I created a personalized pamphlet featuring the top attractions and some of my favorite local restaurants. This personalized touch ensures that she has recommendations for places to visit and dine, making her stay more enjoyable.
I included the Wi-Fi password in a creative and charming way. Instead of using a plain piece of paper, I placed the password in a small picture frame on a decorative card. This thoughtful touch serves a functional purpose and adds charm to the guest room. This way, she doesn’t have to ask for it and can easily access the information.
Including a local map or guidebook with nearby attractions and essential info is always a good idea for out-of-town visitors. It helps them navigate the area and discover all the great spots the city has to offer.
5.Personal Touches
I wrote my mother-in-law a heartfelt letter to let her know how much we missed her and how much we love her. I even encouraged my husband to write a note as well and feet this gesture would be the perfect cherry on top. If you’re a bit shy about writing a lengthy note, there’s no need to worry. A simple card from your local store can be just as effective. A simple message like, “Welcome to my home—wishing you a wonderful stay,” can effectively convey warmth and hospitality.
To complete the welcome, I added a final touch with fresh flowers. I bought a small vase of Stargazer Lilies, her favorite, which brightens the room and adds an extra touch of warmth and charm. These thoughtful details truly make a difference in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for your guests.
