BEST MOVING HACKS
1.Best Moving Hacks – Create a Moving Checklist:
Plan your move by creating a checklist of tasks and deadlines to keep everything on track.
One Month Before Moving:
- Declutter and Donate: Go through each room and get rid of items you don’t need. Donate or sell items in good condition.
- Research Moving Companies: Get quotes and book a moving company or rental truck.
- Collect Packing Supplies: Gather boxes, tape, bubble wrap, markers, and other packing materials.
- Notify Important Parties: Update your address with the post office, banks, insurance companies, and other important contacts.
- Plan Utilities: Schedule disconnection and reconnection of utilities (electricity, water, gas, internet).
Two Weeks Before Moving:
- Start Packing Non-Essentials: Begin packing items you don’t use daily. Things like seasonal clothes, books, and decorations.
- Label Boxes: Clearly label each box with its contents and the room it belongs in.
- Confirm Moving Details: Confirm the moving date, time, and other details with your moving company or helpers.
One Week Before Moving:
- Pack an Essentials Box: Include items you’ll need immediately after the move, like toiletries, a change of clothes, basic kitchen supplies, and important documents.
- Defrost the Freezer: Empty and defrost your freezer if you’re taking it with you.
- Finish Packing: Pack the remaining items, leaving out only what you’ll need in the final days.
2.Best Moving Hacks – Declutter and Donate:
Go through each room and get rid of items you don’t need. Donate or sell items in good condition. Try to do this weeks in advance. I began donating clothes I no longer wear and appliances that no longer work. This process will help you reduce clutter and make packing easier, ensuring you only take what you truly need and want to your new home.
For the fridge, it’s wise to avoid purchasing new jars and frozen food. By consciously finishing what’s already in your refrigerator and freezer, you can minimize the amount of perishable goods that need to be transported to your new home.
3. Essential Box:
Pack an essentials box inside your laundry hamper. This way, your crucial items will be easily accessible without needing to dig through boxes.
- paper towels
- wipes
- toiletries
- change of clothes
- basic kitchen supplies
- important documents.
4. Hangers & Bag Trash
Among all the moving hacks, the hanger and trash bag trick is, in my opinion, the best. Its simplicity and ease of execution make it incredibly effective. To use this hack, simply leave your clothes on their hangers and cover them with a trash bag, tying the bag around the hangers. You can do up to 15 hangers together. This keeps your clothes clean and organized, making them easy to transport and unpack in your new home. Easy to set in your new closet 🙂
5. Suitcases as Boxes
One effective moving hack is to use suitcases as boxes to place your clothes inside. Suitcases are designed to be durable and easy to maneuver, thanks to their wheels and handles. By packing your clothes in suitcases, you can avoid the hassle of carrying heavy boxes. This method allows you to make the most of the space available in your moving vehicle, as suitcases can be easily stacked and stored. I promise you, unpacking becomes more straightforward as you can roll your suitcase directly to your closet or bedroom.
6. Storage Bins
You can optimize storage space by using storage bins to store your pajamas or extra clothes. This method keeps your clothing organized and maximizes the available storage capacity. This approach simplifies unpacking, as you can simply carry the bins to their designated locations and easily integrate them into your new living space.
7. Label Boxes
Labeling all your boxes is crucial for facilitating the moving process with the help of movers or friends. This ensures that each box is placed in its designated spot within your new home. Alongside labeling, it’s beneficial to create a detailed inventory list of items contained in each box. Allowing you to locate specific items quickly and efficiently as you settle into your new space.
Here’s how I made this moving hack work the best:
1.Supplies you’ll need (all bought at the dollar store):
- Bubble Wrap
- Scissors
- Colored Paper
- Black Markers
- Tape
2. Write on the colored paper where the box belongs. This way, your movers or helpers will instantly know the designated location for each box, ensuring a more organized and efficient moving process.
3.Place the color-coded paper on top of the carton box and seal it with tape.
4. Use bubble wrap to safeguard fragile items and ensure they remain well-protected throughout the move.
